It was a terrific time at the 12th annual 2008 Gerry Wilson Golf Classic, a fund-raising tournament for the BBB Foundation, which was played in June at the Crosby Golf Club! It was the first time for the tournament to be played at the exclusively private Crosby Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe.
Over the years, the Gerry Wilson BBB Golf Classic has generated much-needed funds that have helped your BBB to continue providing free information and services to assist hundreds of thousands of consumers with their buying decisions, as well as their protection against scams and frauds. Thanks to support from golfers and sponsors, your BBB is able to respond and deliver on our objectivity that’s based on evaluating the trustworthiness of businesses based on a set of high, time-tested standards.

A special thanks to the participants of our 4th annual wacky slacks contest. We owe our frivolity to our tournament’s namesake, the late Gerry Wilson -- the BBB’s president/CEO from January 1996 to March 2004 -- who was known for arriving at the first tee wearing outrageous and multicolored trousers. I am sure that Gerry is smiling down at us right now.
We also owe thanks to Bill Griffith, anchor with KGTV-TV, who returned as the celebrity auctioneer for his fourth consecutive year. Griffith is considered to be the "dean" of San Diego television; in part because he's been on the air with 10News since February 1976 (the longest continuing tenure at the same station by anyone currently working in the market).
We hope to see all the golfers and sponsors again next year. At its heart, the BBB is – and always has been – a people organization. Since our San Diego Bureau opened in 1921, we have constantly demonstrated that people can make a difference. Thank you again for supporting your BBB!
