With the cost of higher education constantly on the rise, finding ways to pay for college can be a daunting. Your BBB aims to ease this burden for local high school students through the Torch Awards Scholarship Program.
Five students have an opportunity to receive a scholarship and make their search for financial aid a little less stressful.
The San Diego Better Business Bureau invites all high school juniors and seniors to write and submit an essay addressing, “The Importance of Ethics and Integrity in Our Community.” The essay should be no longer than 400 words and must include students’ views on ethics, personal and otherwise.
A panel of independent judges will evaluate the essays using the following criteria:
· Inclusion of personal viewpoints and/or examples (5 points)
· Relevance to the them (5 points)
· Readability and clarity (5 points)
· Spelling and grammar (5 points)
The authors of the top five essays will be awarded scholarships in the amounts of $1500, $1250, $1000, $750, and $500 respectively.
The top five scholarship recipients will also be guests of honor at the BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethic on December 13, where they will receive their scholarship checks. Additionally, the top winning essay will be read by its author at the awards luncheon.
All students in the graduating classes of 2012 and 2013 who attend high school in and reside in San Diego or Imperial Counties are eligible to submit an essay.
The deadline for submissions is October 24th at 5pm. For more information and to obtain an application form, please visit the BBB website.
