BBB's 15th Annual Gerry Wilson Golf Classic

Despite some late-morning clouds, the atmosphere at the Rancho Bernardo Inn on June 9th was sunny and warm. From the registrations tables to the putting challenge to Sycuan’s steak sandwich station, happy, if somewhat thirsty, faces crowded the BBB’s 15th Annual Gerry Wilson Golf Classic hoping to walk away a winner.
Some would be crowned King or Queen of the Wacky Slacks Competition. Others would leave the tournament proudly sporting a “Lowest Net” score with the rest of their team. One lucky team would even have the privilege (and embarrassment) of taking home the “Most Honest Award” which earned them golf lessons, provided by Rancho Bernardo Inn.
This year’s Gerry Wilson Golf Classic hosted just fewer than 100 golfers for a day of golf, games, dinner and a silent auction. Golfers traveled the course through the heat of the day, and were greeted at each hole by a new sponsor who treated golfers to games, pictures or drinks. The sponsorship team from Health Savings Association, who were awarded “Best Overall Theme - Sponsor Table,” provided golfers with a taste of Vegas as they passed out all-natural energy drinks and prizes to the winners of their blackjack table.
Other memorable sponsors were San Diego Employers Association, Coastal Payroll and Eagle Graphics. Eagle Graphics encouraged golfer to take a break from their day and pose alongside a cardboard cutout of the “Three Stooges.” Original and fun, every golfer walked away with their keepsake photo.
After the last ball was sunk, the golfers convened for the BBB’s silent auction where they bid on items generously donated by members of the San Diego Community. The golfers attempted to score great pieces like a four-pack of tickets to a Padres game, a weekend getaway for two and beer tastings before they joined BBB President/CEO Sheryl Bilbrey for a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony.
When all was said and done, the BBB and golfers enjoyed another year of sun, fun and holes-in-one. The BBB would like to thank all who participated in the 15th successful year of the Gerry Wilson Golf Classic and the BBB’s generous sponsors.
